My Story

Hello, I’m John. I’m new to the Cornerstone, but the wonderful team here has made me feel right at home in a short order. I’m originally from Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. My father was a Southern Baptist minister and my mother was a Christian school teacher. I have one sister, Martha, who has Down’s Syndrome and she is the apple of my eye. I grew up moving all over the Southeastern United States, while my father pastored various churches and went to two seminaries, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC.

I was a prodigal son once I grew up and got out of the house. I studied Chemistry at UNC Chapel Hill, and hated it. I went into the electrical and automation industry in June of 2002 and earned an NC electrical license by April of 2007. During the Great Recession I went back to school and studied Finance and Accounting at East Carolina University before getting hired on with Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley for ten years in 3 different roles. I had a very interesting and lucrative career which led me to several challenging assignments, most prominently a 5 year stint as program manager for a reliability program at Universal Studios Orlando as well as 2 years as the Vice President of a Systems Integration firm after I left Rockwell. As I look back on my life I can see that Jesus was with me every step of the way, and that even when I was completely ignoring Him in my younger years, He was preparing me to be of great use to Him.

I married my best friend, Jessica Storey, in June of 2022, and have been truly blessed to be her husband and to watch her walk with Jesus, as we both put Christ first in our lives and in our marriage. We have given out over 750 Bibles in the area and look forward to doing much more. We are also volunteers for Kairos Prison Ministry. My life verse is “And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, In as much as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” Matthew 25:40 KJV So the homeless, the hurting, the hungry, and the imprisoned are a big focus of our ministry work.
